Pharmaceutical Drugs
I was going through some information from Dr. Mercola’s Inner Circle (www.mercola.com) and I found some information that interested me about pharmaceutical drugs. I think that pharmaceuticals are one toxin that we put in our bodies that is not often addressed from that perspective. Here is the typical scenario of the pharmaceutical trap. You have an allergy, a toxin, a virus, a bacteria or something in your system. You are given a drug to cover up the symptoms (or in the case of a bacteria, an antibiotic to kill all of the bacteria, good or bad, in your system-don't get me wrong, this is definitely necessary at times!) Your body doesn't necessarily recognize this new synthetic toxin, and may react with a side effect. This side effect may not show itself immediately, so it may not be attributed to the initial drug that was taken. Back to the doctor for relief from the side effect, and the spiral begins.
According to Dr. Mercola, in 1929, each year, the average American took two pharmaceutical drugs over the course of a year. By 2006, Dr. Mercola states the following statistics:
* Just over 4 prescriptions per child (age 0-18)
* Almost 11 prescriptions per adult (age 19-64), and
* 28 prescriptions per senior, aged 65 and over!
I find these numbers mind boggling! I have clients who are frustrated with having to take 3 or 4 supplements to detox and support their systems, but many who take pharmaceuticals don't bat an eye when they have to add an additional drug to their little daily pill dividers. We, as a society, need to pause and evaluate how we have been duped into believing that we can't be healthy unless we are loading up with drugs.
We may be heading into a time when this generation is less healthy and has a shorter life span than the generation before us. Of course, drugs are not the only culprits in this phenomenom. We are exposed to excessive toxins in our environment, and we eat foods that have more chemicals than nutrients. We are overfed and undernourished. This is definitely a topic that I will spend more time on!
